Manuscript appraisal
A fantastic option for writers unsure if their manuscript is ready for the next step, or wanting guidance for a redraft. An appraisal assesses the strengths and weaknesses of a manuscript, considering plot structure, characterisation, writing technique etc., to give a professional 'outside eye' to the work and provide insight into its current status. Appraisals can be tailored to address particular concerns (e.g. audience, suitability for traditional publishing) or a general overview, and usually includes comparison titles and suggestions for further reading.
Includes:
-
Appraisal document: half an A4 page (1.5 spaced) per 10,000 words (3 pages minimum regardless of word count).
-
Follow up: six questions by email for further detail or to query anything not covered in the appraisal (additional follow up available if required).
-
BONUS: submit a detailed plot summary and I will annotate your manuscript's structure with the appraisal (or I can create a plot summary for you).

Structural editing
A structural edit is a detailed critique of the manuscript overall, designed to guide the writer in creating the final draft of their work before moving into line/copy editing. This often involves major changes to plot structure, strengthening character arcs and functions, fixing recurring weaknesses in writing technique and focusing on the 'big picture' elements that make a story work, aiming to make the manuscript the absolute best it can be. A structural edit is often the difference between a story reading as amateurish or professional. Self-publishing authors: do not skip this step!
The edit includes a document assessing the manuscript, plus comments on the manuscript itself for specific guidance and criticism. It may include other documents as required to get to the next editing stage, as well as flexible follow up to ensure author and editor are on the same page in progressing the book to its optimal condition.

Includes formatting using styles to prepare your document for typesetting by a designer.
